The unique composition of a sweet onion makes them a wonderful ingredient in some dishes and a terrible choice for others. For the best results when cooking sweet onions consider these helpful tips:

Use sweets: Raw in sandwiches and salads; lightly grilled-whole or sliced, gently roasted or quickly baked; in stir-frys; power bowls, street tacos and other fresh fare. They are delicious caramelized but take care not to stir them too rigorously or cook them at too high a temperature

Avoid using in: Slow-cooker or long-simmering recipes like chili, stews, soup or in baked casserole dishes. Prolonged cooking breaks down the delicate texture and flavor of sweet onions.

Cheesy Sweetie Sweet Onion Dip
Ingredients
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
2 cups thinly sliced Sweetie Sweet® onions
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1 1/2 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
1/2 cup pepper jack cheese, shredded
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
2 tablespoons hot sauce
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
Crackers or crostini for dipping
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Melt butter in a skillet over medium high heat. Add Sweetie Sweet onions and cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add mayonnaise, sour cream, Swiss cheese, pepper jack cheese, Parmesan cheese and hot sauce. Toss to combine. Pour onion mixture into a baking dish. Sprinkle with thyme. Place in preheated oven and bake about 30 minutes or until the edges start to brown. Remove from oven and let cool 15 minutes before serving.

I make this creamy, tangy, flavorful dip for get-togethers and it's always a hit. You might want to make a double batch because it’s hard to stop dipping into this dish full of onion-y goodness!
